Often called the central science, chemistry examines the processes that produce our food, clothes, medicines and hundreds of materials we use every day.
The Department of Chemistry at Carleton University is a hotbed of diverse academic programs, innovative research and enthusiastic faculty and staff, offering a variety of undergraduate programs in chemistry, food science and nutrition, and nanoscience, and graduate degree programs in chemistry, with specializations in chemical and environmental toxicology, and in food science and nutrition.

Earth sciences, or geology, from the ancient Greek meaning “the study of the earth”, is the study of our dynamic planet and the processes that have formed and shaped it, from its origin 4600 million years ago to today.
The Department of Earth Sciences, through the integration of teaching, service and research, educates the next generation of earth scientists for employment in the resource industry, envrionmental sector, academia and government, including the needs of policy makers and the economic and public sectors.

The Department of Health Sciences is a trans-disciplinary department that brings together Carleton’s extensive academic and research expertise in health.The Department fosters a culture of networking and collaboration, and a diverse disciplinary mix of faculty engage with industry, government and community partners.
Carleton's Health Sciences department is training Canada’s future leaders in the health sector to provide them with the skills and knowledge they will need to tackle pressing problems facing society, with academic programs designed from an ‘outcomes’ perspective, grounded in the knowledge and skills graduates require for a broad range of health careers.

Established in 2010, Neuroscience is one of Carleton’s newest and most rapidly growing academic departments. Currently, faculty have a range of research interests, each of which relate to investigations of mechanisms of brain pathology and their influence on mental health.
We commonly explore the impact of psychological stressors and environmental stressors on the brain in order to understand how various factors that can damage the brain and/or disrupt homeostasis result in pathology.

The Department of Physics provides rigorous physics education with high standards to student in our undergraduate programs, in our graduate programs, and in other programs through the university, and is a leader in physics research at Carleton University, in Canada, and internationally.
The Department offers a wide set of programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and is engaged in intensive research in Particle Physics and Medical Physics. Carleton University is a full member of TRIUMF: Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics.

The aim of biochemistry is to understand and explain the operation of living systems through a study of their chemical, molecular, and cellular properties. In the post-genomic era, discoveries in biochemistry are transforming medicine, agriculture and industry. A degree in biochemistry will give you the tools to succeed in the 21st century.
The Institute of Biochemistry is provides an inspiring educational experience for students who are interested in the fundamental molecular processes and products of living systems. The Technology, Society and Environmental Studies (TSE) program give students a multidisciplinary perspective on important issues, irrespective of traditional academic boundaries.A high level of industrialization and consumption, coupled with population growth, has created problems that past societies did not have to worry about. These have become the crucial problems of our generation.
The TSE courses reflect the need to modernize education by tailoring it to our future needs. Taking one or more TSE courses makes it possible for you to “acquire an additional dimension of understanding, additional vision, and the sense of responsibility for the survival and importance of the whole that distinguishes the manager from the subordinate, and the citizen from the subject”.
