EDI in Math and Stats: Perspectives from a Statistician

Dr. Laura Cowen has been navigating EDI issues throughout her career, actively working on these initiatives since 2017. As part of her department’s Academic Program Review at UVic, she established a departmental EDI committee, which catalyzed broader discussions and actions. Later, as Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of Science at UVic, she founded the Faculty EDI Council. In this talk, Dr. Cowen will share insights into EDI initiatives implemented at the department, faculty, and lab levels, concluding with an open discussion to exchange ideas and perspectives.
