Explore science through Carleton University’s popular Science Cafés, now being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We hope to resume our in-person Science Cafés in the future, generally held twice a month during the fall and winter terms. For now, you are invited to join us online for lively discussions around a scientific issue of the day. Be prepared to be informed, engaged and entertained, as our professors share their scientific discoveries and research with you. Each Café includes a 30 to 40 minute talk by a scientist followed by a moderated question and answer period.

The Science Café series is free to attend and all are welcome to join via Zoom!

Science is for Everyone

In 2008, the Dean of Science kick-started the Science Café—an outreach initiative aimed at connecting Carleton’s researchers to the greater Ottawa community through science education. More than ten years later, the Café is still a hit. Twice a month during Carleton’s fall and winter terms, the Faculty of Science hosts volunteer professors and graduate students to present their innovative research to the public in an inclusive and informal setting.
