The Career Services team is pleased to offer an upcoming information session on Ontario Teacher Education Programs for students considering teaching as a career. Through our career advising appointments, we regularly meet with Faculty of Science students interested in pursuing teacher education, particularly in the Junior/Intermediate and Intermediate/Senior divisions, and looking for guidance on teachable subjects, admission requirements, and the application process. We have seen this interest continue to grow following the announcement that Ontario’s consecutive Bachelor of Education programs are expected to return to a 12-month format beginning with the 2027 intake. This session will provide an overview of admission requirements, application timelines, teachable subjects, the Ontario Teacher Education Application Service (TEAS), and strategies for preparing a competitive application. We would greatly appreciate your help sharing this opportunity with your undergraduate students, particularly those pursuing teachable subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and General Science, as qualified STEM teachers continue to be in high demand across Ontario secondary schools.

Who this is for: Carleton University students and alumni from all programs and years of study who are either preparing for the next Ontario Teacher Education application cycle or are curious about how the application process works.

Whether you’re planning to apply to an Ontario Teacher Education program in the upcoming admissions cycle or simply exploring teaching as a future career, this workshop will help you understand the pathway to becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher and what makes a strong candidate. You’ll gain a practical overview of available program options, key admission criteria, and important considerations before you begin the process.

Through practical examples and trusted resources, you’ll learn how to compare accredited Ontario faculties of education, navigate the TEAS portal, understand other certification pathways across Canada, and create an action plan to prepare for your next steps.
