Science Recruitment Ambassadors are students who demonstrate a strong passion for science and exhibit keen interest in participating in Faculty of Science events and recruitment activities, both in-person and virtually. This volunteer position actively seeks Carleton Science students who are highly motivated and engaged.
Science Recruitment Ambassadors assist in the preparation and implementation of a variety of recruitment projects. The primary focus of a Science Recruitment Ambassador is to provide prospective students with a firsthand glimpse into the exceptional student experience offered within the Faculty of Science.

Serving as a Science Recruitment Ambassador offers several benefits, including seeking meaningful feedback and involvement from others, working collaboratively, communicating effectively, delivering presentations, recognizing personal strengths and weaknesses, employing critical thinking in problem-solving, bridging the gap between curricular and experiential learning, motivating and inspiring group members, acting in a leadership capacity, demonstrating understanding of individual and group dynamics, and gaining recognition through the Co-Curricular Record (CCR).
As a Science Recruitment Ambassador, you will have the opportunity to establish a personal connection with prospective students. By sharing your own Carleton story, you can foster a sense of excitement, optimism, and opportunity in our future Ravens. While our faculty and staff provide valuable information about our programs and services, you can offer a unique perspective by sharing your personal experiences and favorite aspects of being a current Carleton student.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist with Faculty of Science events and recruitment initiatives throughout the academic year. This includes engaging with prospective students and their parents during both in-person and virtual recruitment events, providing program-related information, and moderating question and answer sessions during unit-specific recruitment talks.
- Address inquiries and arrange meetings with prospective students, whether virtually or in person, outside of formal recruitment events.
- Exhibit leadership skills while participating in on-campus recruitment activities, with a particular emphasis on science related recruitment events.
- Support the Associate Dean of Science (Recruitment, Wellness and Success) in devising recruitment initiatives and programs targeted at prospective students.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of in-person and virtual departmental and recruitment events, including but not limited to Open Houses, Applicant Evenings, Faculty Events, Guidance Breakfast, Facility Tours, and Virtual Events.
Virtual Events
Typically, our virtual events are conducted using platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Instagram Live. In preparation for these events, you will have the opportunity to meet with the event organizer beforehand and participate in a technical run-through of the event.

Science Recruitment Ambassadors play a vital role in collaborating with various departments within the Faculty of Science to provide engaging and informative facility tours. These tours offer prospective students a firsthand glimpse into the resources and unique learning environments available within the university. As ambassadors, you will work closely with department representatives to facilitate tours of notable spaces, such as the Chemistry Super Lab and the Nesbitt Greenhouses.
By showcasing these spaces, ambassadors highlight the cutting-edge technologies, research opportunities, and hands-on experiences that await students pursuing science disciplines at Carleton University. Through their expertise and personal insights, Science Recruitment Ambassadors enhance the tour experience, answering questions and sharing their own experiences to help prospective students envision their academic journey within these dynamic departmental spaces.
Time Commitment
Science Recruitment Ambassador responsibilities can require up to 15-20 hours per semester.
