We’ve launched a new event series that aims to increase Awareness, Collaboration and Engagement (ACE), and advance Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) efforts in the Faculty of Science.

Our fourth event in the ACE EDI series will feature guest speaker Dr. James Gauld.

Dr. Gauld co-organized and co-chaired the inaugural LGBTQ+ in STEM Conference in Canada held in 2019. The conference took place virtually in 2020. The event was, in some ways, an expression of his own personal and professional journey as an LGBTQ2S+ faculty member in STEM.

In this conversation, Dr. Gauld will touch on personal experiences which inspired him to organize the conference. He will also explore other experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQ2S+ in STEM, and the importance of such events (be they either local or broader) for building support and community. Finally, he will discuss ways in which STEM and academia can be more inclusive.
