Biography

Dr. Akram Bin Sediq received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering (summa cum laude) in 2006 from the American University of Sharjah (AUS), United Arab Emirates, and the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, in 2008 and 2013, respectively.

In Winter 2012, Dr. Bin Sediq was a course instructor at Carleton University. During 2013-2014, Dr. Bin Sediq was a system engineer at BLiNQ Networks, Ottawa, Canada, where he was mainly responsible for contributing to the company’s patent portfolio and developing novel algorithms for non-line-of-sight small-cell backhaul networks. Dr. Bin Sediq joined the R&D Group at Ericsson Canada, Ottawa, Canada, in November 2014, where he is now a Senior Specialist in Radio Access Network (RAN) Edge Analytics and his responsibilities include securing embedded machine intelligence in RAN to facilitate automated and adaptive RAN solutions, driving early-phase system designs of 4G/5G wireless systems, contributing to the company’s patent portfolio, and managing university collaborations. His research interests include radio resource management (RRM), machine-learning based RRM, data analytics, optimization, dual connectivity, control channel design, energy-saving, and constellation design. His work resulted in 25+ granted and filed patents as well as 30+ peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Bin Sediq is a recipient of the President Cup for graduating with the highest GPA at the Bachelor’s level at AUS in 2006, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship for international students for three years in a row during 2007–2010, two Senate Medals for outstanding academic achievement from Carleton University at the Masters and Ph.D. levels in 2008 and 2013, respectively, the EDC Teaching Assistant Outstanding Award at Carleton University in 2013, NSERC Industrial R&D Fellowship (IRDF), 2013–2015, and he was inducted to AUS Alumni Wall of Fame in 2015.
