Immune systems are suddenly top-of-mind as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to change the way we live and work. The pandemic has also increased public awareness of newly emerging viruses. Our immune systems play a critical role in protecting us from viral infections. However, if these responses are not tightly regulated, they can cause damage to surrounding tissues.
In a Science Café, hosted online on May 26, 2020, Health Sciences Prof. Edana Cassol discussed how our immune systems recognize and respond to viruses, and how dysregulation of these processes can contribute to the development of disease.
